retail & marketing manager
Position
The Retail & Marketing Manager will take the lead on building Stonetree’s retail program and overseeing retail-focused marketing. This role is about learning, growing, and manage retail at Stonetree, while also helping to promote the gym’s classes and events. The manager will manage vendor relationships, build displays and storage solutions, guide staff in retail engagement, and create content for social, email, and print marketing. In addition to retail and marketing duties, this position includes regular front desk and office hours, providing a consistent presence in our facility.

Learn, grow, and manage Stonetree’s retail offerings
Manage advertising and marketing, from social media to emails to traditional outlets
Promote—and ultimately increase—revenue in retail and program offerings
Roles and Responsibilities
Retail
Initiate and maintain retail partnerships
Build and follow a retail budget, with clear goals for growth every 6–12 months
Develop a 3-year plan for a “full retail selection” (to be defined with the Owner/Managers, based on space, budget, and profit)
Design and help build both retail display and storage space
Train front desk staff in engaging customers, maintaining retail space, and restocking merchandise
Create social media, print, and email content to advertise retail products
Plan, promote, and oversee the Annual Gear Swap (or similar retail-focused events)
Attend at least one retail show per year
Marketing
Build and schedule retail-focused content for social media, print, and email
Ensure retail marketing is integrated into Stonetree’s broader communication (while collaborating with staff on Youth, Fitness, and Event content)
Track marketing effectiveness and adjust strategy as needed
Front Desk & Other Duties
Average schedule: 32-40 hours/week (25 hrs front desk + 5.5 hrs office time)
Handle all front desk responsibilities including customer service, opening/closing, POS, and cleaning tasks
Potential opportunities to support youth teams, adult classes, or specialty programs depending on skills and interest
Collaborate with staff to help cover high-demand seasons and share duties where appropriate this could coaching, setting, youth programs, events and weekend work
Scheduling & Time Off
Time off is flexible but must be coordinated with other full-time staff and gym programs
Weekly schedule may vary seasonally, but position averages 32–40 hours per week
Qualifications and Skills
1+ year climbing experience and enthusiasm for the climbing/fitness community
Customer service or sales experience required; retail and/or marketing experience strongly preferred
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities
Creativity and confidence in social media, email marketing, and community engagement
Comfort with budgeting, vendor relations, and inventory management
Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and POS systems
Experience with Rock Gym Pro preferred
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment
Environmental and Physical Requirements
Rotational weekend and evening availability, as split between other full time staff
Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs
Comfortable working in a high-traffic, high-energy environment
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
Compensation and Benefits
$19.00–$21.00/hr DOE (maxing out payroll budget for 2024)
Hourly pay increases reviewed annually, based on retail growth
32–40 hrs per week

Example weekly schedule (subject to change with season):
25 hrs front desk shifts (customer service, POS, cleaning tasks, opening/closing)
5–10 hrs office time (retail planning, vendor coordination, marketing content creation)
Occasional evenings & weekends for events or shared responsibilities with other full time staff
